VENOM TOXINS OF FIRE ANTS

This chapter presents an overview of what is known about fire ant venom, ending with different open possibilities for investigation in this topic. 
Fire ants are aggressive invasive insects spread around the world via ship cargo, mainly originating from the United States. They can cause severe impacts on human activities and the environment.

THE ALLERGIC RESPONSE MEDIATED BY FIRE ANT VENOM

The present study delineates the immunological pathways of allergic reaction to fire ant venom toxins. 

Fire ants are widely studied, invasive and venomous arthropod pests. There is significant biomedical interest in immunotherapy against fire ant stings.

QUEEN VENOM ALKALOID DELIVERS RAPID KNOCKDOWN OF FIRE ANT COMPETITORS

The venom of invasive fire ants queens has remained poorly studied. Founding queens must succeed in isolation in the field, where venom is bound to play a role against competitor species. Fire ant venoms are composed of insecticidal alkaloids named 'solenopsins'.
